350 Summary:

 Dear Friends,

On October 24, 350.org organized the most widespread day of political action in history — over 5,200 events in 181 countries — to call for a clear solution to the climate crisis: reducing the level of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere below 350 parts per million.

Get this: It worked. People listened: CNN , The New York Times , and BBC News were among some of the world-wide news organizations that reported. Here is 350.org’s official press release about the day straight from its founder and author Bill McKibben

So, just WHO were these Climate Citizens, these “save-the-world” superheroes?

They were us, just ordinary people; informed, connected, passionate and active.

enAct’s Event as a Great Success! – Our event was featured by the local Channel 12 News Station that evening, and received a nice write-up from the Locust-Fork News Journal

I have attached our “iconic crowd photo” which was shared around the world and shown on the big screen in New York’s Times Square.

That’s right, we (the normal every day “we”) made a difference, we are making a difference, and we certainly will continue to do so (there is a long way to go to reach 350)

– But the will part doesn’t happen without you.

Step 1 (easiest): Sign the 350 Pledge on the right-hand side of the homepage at http://350.org

Step 2 (slightly harder): Invite Your Friends — Forward this E-mail, find what is going on in your zip code

Step 3: Call Your Representatives — Make sure they know we want a vote on the Senate Climate Bill before Copenhagen and that we want Barack Obama himself to attend the Copenhagen Meeting

Step 4: Organize, Attend, Join and Contribute

– You can do this globally at 350.org, locally at enAct’s homepage www.enactbsc.org (subscribe on the righthand side of the page), join us on facebook, and join a newly-formed Coalition of Alabama Students for the Environment as well! More to come from this group soon!
– You can put some hard-earned $$ towards Green Work here in Alabama by donating to the Sierra Student Coalition, in their fundraising for Summer Activist Training Programs for Alabama and Georgia. Donate here

– If you’d like to become an enAct donor, please e-mail me and I can send you more information on how to donate

(Birmingham people) ATTEND enAct’s Coal Country Screening on November 12th:

http://action.sierraclub.org/goto/enact — See a Film and ACT!

Coal Country (http://www.coalcountrythemovie.com) is the stunning new documentary about mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia. This powerful film reveals the shocking true cost of coal, as it takes us through the personal stories of coal miners, and the residents of Appalachia who have lost their mountains, their homes, and their history to mountaintop removal mining.
Our party will be one of hundreds of Coal Country House Parties (http://www.sierraclub.org/coalcountry) held nationwide by Sierra Club supporters the week of November 10 through 14. Thousands of people will be gathering in their communities to watch Coal Country and take action against mountaintop removal.

Other than that, I thank you for reading this wonderful beginning of a story that could very-well save our children’s future, suggest you stay informed, share and be vocal with what you know and what you believe, and stay engaged beyond your computer screen. I would be glad to help you with this as well

Hoping for a just, sustainable, and healthy world for all,

The Warriors of enAct
