Your Green Leaders for 2009-10
Ben
Ben Tracy has been involved with enAct since the beginning of his freshman year in the fall of 2007. Ben is excited to lead enAct in the upcoming year, and represent the organization in its administrative activities. He is also the steering committee chair for Fair Trade the College and the True Green Dorm Campaign, and assists all other officers with their campaigns. He is a junior Urban Environmental Studies Major (Society and Policy concentration) and a Harrison Honors Scholar. He interned with Green America this past summer in their Fair Trade Program, and now serves as the Southeast Coordinator for the United Students for Fair Trade at www.usft.org (sponsored by the Tides Foundation). He also recently helped to co-found C.A.S.E. (Coalition of Alabama Students for the Environment) a student environmental network and political action group (more to come from them soon). He has worked and studied in Honduras, Costa Rica, Mozambique, and Nicaragua, and hopes to work abroad this summer in either Central America or West Africa. Interests are living things, language, poetry, culinary expression, yoga, politics, and blogging.

Chris
Christopher Johnson has been involved with enAct since his freshman year at BSC. Chris is excited to lead and support enAct in the upcoming year, and represent the organization on campus and throughout Alabama. He is the committee chair for Environmental Talk Radio and the BSC representative and Chairman for C.A.S.E. (Coalition of Alabama Students for the Environment), and assists the other officers with their campaigns. He is a junior Urban Environmental Studies Major (Society and Policy concentration) and a Hess Center for Leadership Studies Scholar. Currently, Chris serves as the President of Green Theme Housing, Treasurer of the BSC Community Garden and Vice President of enAct. He is helping to lead C.A.S.E. a student environmental network and political action group (also hosting the BSC 350 Climate Rally on October 24th), the BSC Community Garden, and the renewal of enAct. Chris loves to travel and his favorite experiences are with friends, new and old alike, exploring the cultures of the world. He enjoys music from all over the world, poetry, reading and the occasional siesta.

Patrick
Patrick Welch is a sophomore from Gadsden, AL. He is a Harrison Honors Scholar with a major in Urban Environmental Studies. His main role in enAct as Outdoor Events Coordinator is to schedule several events each semester such as hiking and canoeing trips, and river clean-ups. Having worked for the Freshwater Land Trust and Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership, he is been very active and knows much about environmental work in the Birmingham area

Allison
Allison Hardin is currently a junior English Major at Birmingham-Southern and is from New Orleans, Louisiana. She is Secretary of enAct and has been Secretary of The BSC Community Garden Club since Spring ‘09. She was an active coordinator in the 2009 Earth Day celebration on campus (April ‘09) and is a current resident of the Green House Apartments. She volunteered at Second Harvester’s Food Bank this past summer. Her interests include scuba diving, reading, swimming, teaching, volunteer work, writing, and sleeping past noon.

John
John Thomason has been involved with enAct since his freshman year in the spring of 2009. He is on the Not For the Landfill and the Green Dorm committees. He is currently a sophomore Urban Environmental Studies Major (Natural Sciences concentration). He interned with the Freshwater Land Trust this past summer and helped to construct their 10-year Conservation Plan for the Greater Birmingham Area. Interests are music, philosophy, poetry, history, economics, physics, and film.

Sam
Sam Wilson is a Birmingham native and a junior Urban Environmental Studies major. He currently serves as the enAct Energy efficiency coordinator promoting campus-wide energy conservation and efficiency. He also serves as the President of the Garden Club. When not busy with work at school, Sam enjoys gardening, listening to and playing music, cooking and culinary culture, cycling, backpacking, and late-night poker games.

Ginny Coats
Ginny Coats is a senior Theatre major and Political Science minor from Madison, Alabama. She is excited about co-chairing with Anna Rose as an Awareness Coordinator for enAct. Dr. LaMonte’s Public Policy Process sparked Ginny’s interest in learning about environmental policy. While studying abroad in the fall of 2008, Ginny enjoyed researching the effects of transboundary air pollution in China and India for a course in environmental politics and attended several sessions with international envrionmental leaders. She looks forward to living in the Green House and being involved in pro-environment initiatives on campus.

Kait
Kait Talley is a sophomore English major, Political Science minor and is excited to begin working with enAct as a writer in the fall. She is currently the Communications Director of BSC College Democrats, serves on the Student Retention committee as the Sophomore representative, is a Resident Advisor in Cullen Daniel, and will begin working towards her distinction in Leadership Studies in the fall. Kait is very active in Service Learning through the Bunting Center and is greatly looking forward to 2010 Service Learning interim in Washington, D.C. Her interests include reading, theatre, and debate.
Julia
Julia Guyton is a sophomore Urban Environmental Studies major from Tallahassee, FL. She is the Waste Reduction and Recycling Coordinator for enAct and is a second year member. Julia is in charge of establishing a recycling program for fraternity row, hosting recycling competitions and trash audits, as well as distributing materials on recycling and waste reduction. Julia is also a member of Kappa Delta sorority and the Garden Club.
